Dubai: Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, on Saturday inspected the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (Eiast).
Shaikh Mohammad reviewed the work process at Eiast and the institution's development plans to upgrade its work and projects.
He was briefed by Eiast engineers and scientists on its various programmes, which include space, astronomy, power, environment and water research projects.
Shaikh Mohammad visited the ground station to monitor the satellite Dubai Sat1, and the data analysis room, in which data is checked and exchanged, and photos are treated and analysed.
He also inspected the satellite building experiment laboratory, where he viewed engineering and mechanical models of Dubai Sat1.
The Dubai Sat1 work team of Emirati engineers explained the launching of Dubai Sat1, its applications, how it communicates with the ground station in Dubai and how information is received from the satellite.
Shaikh Mohammad also watched the satellite orbiting the Earth and passing over the UAE. He expressed his happiness at the efforts exerted to make this historic achievement, which enhanced the UAE's status on the global excellence and innovation map.
Shaikh Mohammad highlighted the role of Emirati engineers in making this achievement a reality, adding that he had great hopes for Emirati youth to lead the march of scientific and technical development.
